"The wound is the place where the Light enters you."

Welcome!

My name is Alyson Huneycutt Brander, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 29012) in Santa Barbara, California. I have worked with diverse client populations in a variety of clinical settings, including local nonprofit clinics, health clinics, mental health centers, and private practice settings. I have provided care on the partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels. I have been providing therapy for over 15 years and have dedicated my practice to supporting couples and individuals on their unique healing journeys.

I know the process of finding a good provider can be exhausting so I make it a personal priority to get back to potential clients in a timely manner. I have been repeatedly told how relieving it was to hear back so soon after reaching out.

My Practice

My approach to treatment draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment -based therapy, somatic techniques, and mindfulness. My work as a therapist continually reinforces my belief that people heal in relationship and that each person’s path to growth is unique. I integrate a variety of techniques to fit the needs of each client and support them in reaching their own goals for therapy.

I believe in the transformative power of a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and empathy. I foster a collaborative therapeutic environment with warmth, compassion, and open-mindedness. My client-centered, eclectic approach enables me to offer relevant support through any challenges you may be navigating.

It is an honor to be a part of your journey, and I value the opportunity to contribute to your process of self-discovery, fulfillment, and growth.

Education

My educational journey has equipped me with an understanding of the complex contributing factors to unhelpful thoughts and emotional states, as well as an understanding of the variety of therapeutic methods to facilitate change and well-being. In my research I chose to focus on factors contributing to resiliency and well-being. I pursued a unique integration of educational backgrounds in order to obtain a broader perspective and to be better equipped to support my clients. Part of my education focused primarily on individual mental health, and part was oriented towards the relational aspects of mental health.

My degrees include:

  • Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD)

  • Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MA in MFT)

  • Master of Arts in Community/Clinical Counseling (MA)
