Insurance & Payment

Insurance & Out-of-Network Billing

Understanding the different ways you can pay for therapy sessions is important in making informed decisions about your mental health care. I have taken steps to clarify different ways to utilize your benefits, and to provide you with additional resources, with the goal of helping you obtain the care you need without confusion or stress.

  • If you have HealthNet or Aetna insurance, I can accept your insurance and communicate directly with them to bill sessions.

  • If you do not have HealthNet or Aetna insurance, you have the option to:

    • pay privately (out of pocket)

    • pay privately and then request reimbursement from your insurance company

    • pay privately and use a service (such as “Mentaya”) that requests reimbursement from your insurance company on your behalf

If you do not have HealthNet or Aetna insurance

Private pay + reimbursement

Many clients choose to pay privately, and some clients chose to pay privately and then submit invoices to their insurance company for reimbursement. I am happy to provide you with the necessary documentation and walk you through the process of submitting these invoices to your insurance provider.

Using Mentaya for reimbursement

I also work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to help you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim. You can sign up using this link: https://mentaya.com/inviteclient/9FA01Gfhw4fSNJBvurSb

Note: Mentaya is completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from you using it. The purpose of using Mentaya is to save you the time you would have spent submitting bills to your insurance company on your own.

Benefits calculator

Whether you chose to submit the superbill yourself, or to go through Mentaya, you can check your benefits with the out-of-network benefits calculator to the right. This benefits calculator can check how much your insurance would reimburse you for therapy sessions, so you can know ahead of time how much sessions will cost you after reimbursement.
